Sam’s First Visit

July, 2026

Dear Mom,

Now I truly understand why you loved to have us come to visit you in Cleveland and spend a few days enjoying our family time together. Sam and his family were here for four days at the end of June and I was in heaven.

Sam is a sweet, charming three month old whose smile is contagious. Sara and Doug are totally dedicated to him, giving him comfort and lots of love. It made my heart sing to watch them as a young family, helping each other in every way.

Although I loved each minute of the visit, my favorite times were when Sara, Sam and I got to hang out together in the early morning. Listening to my daughter and watching my little grandson were times I will always treasure.

I know you were there in every moment as well. At one moment, both you and Dad came into my dream. All I could see were your eyes but the message was clear—you were enjoying the visit too!

Life is filled with miracles. You taught me to notice them—thank you. For me perhaps the greatest of all is the birth on a new child. Each stage is precious and constantly changing. I am deeply thankful for instant pictures sent by text from Sara and for FaceTime.

Although I wish they lived closer, I am grateful that they chose to visit. I am so happy Doug’s family lives in NH too so they can visit us all!

Mom, you taught me the importance of family—to treasure the moments we have together. We all know that life is short but I am SO grateful for all the time with you and Dad, and so grateful to be with my family now.

Love,
Helen
